How to stay current

*) Mailit is sold as a Perpetual License. Your license does not expire, and you can keep using the last Mailit version you are entitled to use. Every new license includes 12 months of Update Entitlement for updates and upgrades.


 To continue receiving newer Mailit versions after the first 12 months, renew your Update Entitlement before it expires. The Update Entitlement renewal price is 50% of the current full license price for the same license tier.


If your Update Entitlement expires before renewal, you can continue using your last eligible version, but you will need to purchase a new full license to access newer versions.


Upgrades form older versions of Mailit to Mailit 11 will be available only until the end of the year 2026.



Plan, license tier and purchase FAQ

  • Do I need Mailit, or is FileMaker’s native Send Mail enough?

     If you only need basic outbound emails, FileMaker’s native Send Mail may be sufficient. If you need inbound email (IMAP/POP3), mailbox workflows, attachment processing, background workflows (incl. FileMaker Server), or security features (PGP/S/MIME), Mailit is the better fit.   • What license model does Mailit use?

    Mailit uses a Perpetual License with 12 months of Update Entitlement.


    This means:


    * you buy Mailit once;

    * your license itself does not expire;

    * your purchase includes 12 months of access to updates and upgrades;

    * after 12 months, you can keep using the last version you were entitled to use;

    * to keep receiving newer versions, you must renew your Update Entitlement before it expires.


  • Which license tier is right for me?

    The right Mailit license depends on how and where you want to use Mailit — for example, the number of users, whether you use FileMaker Server, whether you run on Windows/macOS or Linux Server, and whether you distribute FileMaker solutions to customers.


    All Mailit licenses are Perpetual Licenses and include 12 months of Update Entitlement. The license tier defines the permitted usage scope.


    As a general guide:


    * Single User License

        For one individual user using Mailit locally with FileMaker Pro. It does not include server-side use.

    * Network 10 License

        For teams of up to 10 users using Mailit within one organization, without server-side workflows.

    * Network 15 License

        For teams of up to 15 users. This tier includes Windows/macOS FileMaker Server usage where stated in the license tier.

    * Server License

        For FileMaker Server workflows on Windows/macOS, such as server-side scripts, scheduled tasks, hosted workflows, or background processing.

    * Linux Server License

        Required when Mailit runs on Linux FileMaker Server. If you also purchase a license tier that already includes Windows/macOS Server usage, such as Network 15, Site & Server, World & Server, or Developer, Linux Server still requires an additional full Linux Server License.

    * Site & Server License

        For unlimited users at one physical business location, including Windows/macOS Server usage where stated in the license tier.

    * World & Server License

        For company-wide usage across multiple business locations, including Windows/macOS Server usage where stated in the license tier.

    * Developer License

        For developers who build or distribute FileMaker solutions for customers or third parties, where redistribution rights are required.


    To distribute Mailit with a solution that runs on FileMaker Server Linux, an additional license of Mailit for FileMaker Server Linux is required.

  • What is the difference between Updates and Upgrades?

    Updates are maintenance releases, bug fixes, minor improvements, performance improvements, security updates, compatibility adjustments, and other changes to the Software.


    Upgrades are new major releases, new versions, or releases that Dacons designates as requiring a new license entitlement.


    During an active Update Entitlement period, both Updates and Upgrades released for your licensed product and tier are included.

  • I want to upgrade my Mailit license to a different type of license of Mailit. What do I do?

    What if I need more users or a different license tier?


    If your usage exceeds your purchased license tier, you need a tier upgrade, add-on, or new license.


    Examples:


    * Single User → Network

    * Network → Server-capable tier

    * Windows/macOS Server → Linux Server License

    * Site & Server → World & Server

    * Standard usage → Developer / redistribution rights


    Update Entitlement covers access to eligible Software versions. It does not expand your license scope.


    Is calculated in 3 steps.


    1. Until end of the year 2026 upgrade your Mailit license to the same Mailit 11 license.


    2. Upgrade seats of your network license. Now you can trade in the full value of your current (Mailit 11) license. 


    3. A US $ 20 handling fee applies.

  • Are Server licenses platform-specific?

    Yes, Server licenses may be platform-specific.


    Unless your order confirmation states otherwise, a standard Server license covers supported Windows/macOS FileMaker Server installations.


    Use on Linux FileMaker Server requires a separate Linux Server License.


    Additional licenses may be required for multiple server platforms, multiple server installations, failover servers, staging systems, or development/test servers unless expressly included in your license tier or order confirmation.

  • Can I buy an upgrade?

    Yes. If you an older Mailit license than Mailit 11, you can purchase an upgrade to the same license tier at a discounted price until the end of the year 2026. An upgrade gives you access to newer versions and includes 12 months of updates and upgrades starting from the upgrade purchase date.

  • I recently bought a Mailit 10 license. Can I get a free upgrade to Mailit 11?

    All Mailit 10 licenses purchased on or after 1st March 2025 quality for a free upgrade. Contact us to request your Mailit 11 license.

  • What is Update Entitlement?

    It depends on how critical Mailit is in your setup. Here’s the practical way to decide:


    Annual is more beneficial if…


    * Mailit is business-critical (automation, inbox processing, server tasks).

    * You want to stay compatible with new FileMaker / OS / email provider changes without “upgrade projects”.

    * You prefer predictable yearly cost and fewer surprises.

    * You want the simplest way to stay current: updates + upgrades while active.


    Perpetual is more beneficial if…


    * You prefer a one-time purchase (CAPEX style).

    * Your environment is stable and you don’t plan frequent updates.

    * You’re fine staying on a fixed version after your 12-month update period ends.

    * You only upgrade occasionally when you decide it’s worth it.


    Rule of thumb


    * If you expect to upgrade at least every ~2 years, Annual is usually the better value and less hassle.

    * If you upgrade rarely and can stay on one version for years, Perpetual is usually cheaper.

  • What is included during the 12-month Update Entitlement period?

    A Perpetual license is a one-time purchase. It lets you use the licensed Mailit version indefinitely (no yearly renewal required). Your purchase includes 12 months of maintainance updates from the purchase date. After that update period ends, you can keep using your last eligible version forever. If you want newer versions later, you can buy an upgrade (which starts a new 12-month update period) or switch to Annual.

  • What if I change my mind?

    You can request a refund within 14 days of purchase if you’re not satisfied. 


    Contact our support and include your order details. If approved, we’ll refund the purchase and the license/subscription will be deactivated.

  • Do you offer discounts for non-profits, NGOs or employees of educational institutions or students?

    Yes, we do offer a 30% discounts for non-profit,  


    NGOs and educational discounts. Please fill in the  non-profit requst form and we’ll send you an offer after verification.

  • What is included during the 12-month Update Entitlement period?

    During your active Update Entitlement period, you can access and use Mailit Updates and Upgrades released for your licensed product and license tier.


    Updates may include maintenance releases, bug fixes, performance improvements, security updates, compatibility adjustments, and other changes.


    Upgrades may include new major releases, new versions, or releases that Dacons designates as requiring a new license entitlement.

  • Do I need to renew to keep using Mailit?

    No. Renewal is not required to keep using your last eligible version.


    Renewal is only required if you want to continue receiving newer Mailit versions after your current Update Entitlement period.

  • Does Update Entitlement include support?

    Support may be provided according to Dacons’ then-current support policy, your license tier, your Update Entitlement status, or any separate support agreement.


    Unless expressly stated otherwise, purchase of a license does not guarantee unlimited support, custom development, implementation services, training, migration assistance, or priority response.


    Support availability may be limited if your Update Entitlement has expired.


    Dacons may require you to install the latest Software version for which you are eligible before providing support. If you require support outside your Update Entitlement, Dacons may require you to purchase a new license.

  • Does my Mailit license expire?

    Because they define two different things:


    Plan (Annual or Perpetual) decides how your entitlement to updates works.

    • Annual: updates and upgrades while your subscription is active.
    •  Perpetual: pay once, includes 12 months of upgrades and updates, keep your version forever; upgrade when you need a newer release.

    License tier decides how you’re allowed to use Mailit (usage rights), for example:

    •     * how many users (Single / Network 10 / Network 15)
    •     * whether you run server-side tasks (Server/Web)
    •     * unlimited users at one site or worldwide (Site & Server / World & Server)
    •     * redistribution to clients (Developer)

    In short: Plan = update model. Tier = usage rights.

  • What is the difference between Updates and Upgrades?

    A tier upgrade is calculated as follows:

    The calculation is transparent and based on your current license, the target license tier, and the remaining Update Entitlement period.


    When you upgrade to a higher license tier, your Update Entitlement is reset. This means the upgraded license receives a new 12-month Update Entitlement period from the upgrade date.

  • Can I buy an upgrade?

  • What is Update Entitlement?

    Update Entitlement is the period during which your license allows you to access and use newer Mailit versions released by Dacons for your licensed product and tier.


    A new Mailit license includes 12 months of Update Entitlement from the purchase date.

  • What is included during the 12 month Update Entitlement period?

    During your active Update Entitlement period, you can access and use Mailit Updates and Upgrades released for your licensed product and license tier.


    Updates may include maintenance releases, bug fixes, performance improvements, security updates, compatibility adjustments, and other changes.


    Upgrades may include new major releases, new versions, or releases that Dacons designates as requiring a new license entitlement.

  • What happens after the first 12 months?

    After your 12-month Update Entitlement ends, your Mailit license continues to work with the last version you were entitled to use.


    However, you are no longer entitled to newer Mailit versions released after your entitlement expired.


    To continue receiving newer versions, you must renew your Update Entitlement before it expires. Plans will be available for purchase with 50% of full license price.

  • Do I need to renew to keep using Mailit?

    No. Renewal is not required to keep using your last eligible version.


    Renewal is only required if you want to continue receiving newer Mailit versions after your current Update Entitlement period.

  • Can I renew after my Update Entitlement has expired?

    No you can not.


    To remain eligible for Update Renewal, you must renew before your current Update Entitlement expires.


    If your Update Entitlement expires, you can continue using your last eligible version, but you will need to purchase a new license to access newer versions.

  • What is an Update Renewal?

    An Update Renewal extends your Update Entitlement for another 12 months.


    It does not replace your Perpetual License. It simply extends your access to newer Mailit versions released during the renewed entitlement period.


    An Update Renewal must be purchased before your current Update Entitlement expires and will cost 50 % of the full license price.

  • Does an Update Renewal change my license tier?

    No.


    An Update Renewal only extends the Update Entitlement for the same licensed product and license tier.


    It does not add users, server rights, Linux Server rights, site rights, world/company-wide rights, developer rights, or redistribution rights.


    If your usage grows, you must purchase the appropriate tier upgrade, add-on, or new license.

  • Why should I keep my Update Entitlement active?

    Mailit depends on technologies that change regularly:


    * FileMaker and FileMaker Server

    * macOS, Windows, and Linux

    * Gmail and Google APIs

  • What payment methods do you accept?

    All purchases are processed by our reseller FastSpring. 


    FastSpring accepts credit/debit cards for all transactions. 


    Additional payment methods may be available depending on your location and order type, including PayPal, bank transfers (e.g., wire/ACH/SEPA Direct Debit), and purchase orders/invoicing for some B2B orders. Available options are shown during checkout.

  • How does your reseller FastSpring handle VAT?

    FastSpring acts as the Merchant of Record and is responsible for calculating, collecting, filing, and remitting VAT (and other applicable taxes) where required. 


    Taxes are calculated in real time based on the buyer’s location and the product type, and the applicable VAT rate is shown during checkout.  


    If VAT is charged, the FastSpring invoice includes the VAT amount and FastSpring’s VAT details.  


    VAT-registered businesses: In many cases, VAT can be handled as reverse charge / VAT-exempt when you enter a valid VAT ID at checkout (where supported).  

  • I am based in the EU and I have a EU VAT number. Can I be exempted from VAT tax?

    In many cases, yes. If you enter a valid EU VAT ID at checkout, FastSpring can apply reverse charge / VAT exemption where permitted. When VAT is not charged, your VAT ID will appear on the invoice.


    On the FastSpring checkout page, enter your VAT ID in the VAT/Tax field (usually shown near the tax/VAT line) before completing the purchase.

  • I’m not in the EU — can my company get a tax exemption at checkout?

    Sometimes. FastSpring calculates and collects indirect taxes (VAT/GST/sales tax) based on your location and local rules. In many countries, eligible businesses can receive a zero rate by entering a valid VAT/GST tax ID at checkout (where supported).  


    In some jurisdictions (especially the US), tax exemption may require approved exemption/resale documentation rather than just an ID. If your organization is tax-exempt and checkout still shows tax, contact us and we can help you route the request through FastSpring’s process.  

  • How can I obtain an invoice after purchase?

    FastSpring (our reseller) sends an order confirmation email that includes a “View Invoice” link by default. You can open the invoice in your browser and, where available, download it as a PDF.  


    If you can’t find your invoice, visit FastSpring Buyer Support or use  http://questionacharge.com  to look up your order using the email address used at checkout.  

  • What if I change my mind?

    You can request a refund within 14 days of purchase if you’re not satisfied. 


    Contact our support and include your order details. If approved, we’ll refund the purchase and the license/subscription will be deactivated.
