New Mailit 4 Features!
The following is a summary of the new Mailit 4 features that come in 28 new functions.
The transition from mail.it 3 to Mailit 4 is very easy as in most cases no change of code is required in the mail.it 3 based solution. Please refer to a list of non-critical, but recommended changes here.
Mailit 4 for FileMaker enables retrieving of e-mail messages using the IMAP protocol. With this, users can access and retrieve messages from any IMAP server folder.
Beside binary objects, Mailit 4 will now accept any kind of container field data types such as images, video, etc, as attachments for e-mails. This also includes the clipboard content.
Mailit 4 allows sending of multi-pages FileMaker Layouts directly as e-mail messages.
With Mailit 4 HTML messages can now be previewed, including attached inline images using the FileMaker Web Viewer (for FileMaker 8.5 and later) or the default web browser.
Additional functions allow conversion of FileMaker Rich Text into HTML code. This allows alteration of the HTML code generated by Mailit 4 directly within FileMaker.
Most common links (such as http, ftp, mailto, and callto) in e-mail messages will be automatically converted to active URLs when using Rich Text messages.
The download history for POP3 servers can now be stored in a FileMaker field. This allows a workgroup to share the download history over the network and avoid duplicate messages download.
IMAP download history is stored on the server side, which makes it also available to all workgroup users.
Mailit tags downloaded messages on the IMAP server to ensure they are not downloaded again by Mailit.

Mailit now supports the same paths style easing the interoperability of file paths between your FileMaker solutions and Mailit.
Windows friendly attachment mode option added, to avoid Apple Double use on Mac OS. This ensures that the Resource Fork is not shown as a seperate attachment when files are sent from Mac OS to Windows.

Instant Use of Mailit 4 in exchange for mail.it 3 in FileMaker Solutions
Please notice that none of the code changes described below are critical while employing Mailit 4 in exchange for mail.it 3 in a FileMaker solution. The only exception is if hard-coded path string are used in a solution. The original mail.it 3 example files, for example, do not use any hard-coded path strings and therefore would also work with Mailit 4 instantly.
Therefore, any programming time invested leads to direct improvements of your FileMaker solution by leveraging new Mailit 4 features. Your migration effort is minimized close to zero!
General recommendations:
'Emai_Version': Update if necessary (Mailit 4 function call will return the major version based on '4').
'Emai_PopGetAttachmentSize': '{decode}' parameter can be removed, as it is obsolete.
Due to FileMaker internal plug-in functions ID mapping, 'Emai_ShowHTML' will be automatically recognized as 'Emai_OpenBrowserHtml' (which is the new function name).
Due to FileMaker internal plug-in functions ID mapping, 'Emai_SmtpValidateAddress' will be automatically recognized as 'Emai_SmtpFalsifyAddress' (which is the new function name).
For customized solutions:
In case if there are any hard-coded 'Emai_ImportFile', 'Emai_ExportFile', or 'Emai_PopExportAttachment' function calls (which are not used in original mail.it 3 example files), the file path style should be adapted to the FileMaker path style, used by Mailit 4. For this purpose we suggest using the new 'Emai_ConvertPath' plug-in function to avoid manual processing errors.
